Toronto Travel Tips

When to Visit - Arts and Events

Toronto hosts two major events. June brings 'Caravan', an exciting fusion of culture, where rhythmic dance movement, ethnic cuisine and music is on display, and the 'Festival of Festivals', an international festival of film, where participants come from across the world. It's renowned for the 'Blue Jays' and the 'Skydome Annual Jazz Festival'. An increasing multicultural population has introduced Latin American; European and Asian traditions that serve to highlight an already international status.

Toronto Dining

Toronto boasts some of the world's most exciting cuisine with a wealth of culinary choices from all parts of the globe. Its multicultural mix has resulted in a broad range of cooking styles apparent in the variety of restaurants throughout the city. Excellent seafood can be found in abundance and Indian, Chinese, Thai and Italian restaurants are commonplace in Toronto. Numerous markets offer an enormous range of produce including fresh maple syrup and rich Canadian cheese, both of which are regional specialities.

Toronto Tipping Advice

In Toronto, like the rest of North America, there is no automatic service charge added to restaurant bills. Tipping is generally expected and can be problematic if one is used to having a service charge included in the bill. Service charges can only be added to the bill with your consent and normally amount to 10 to 20 percent of the total. Toronto doormen and porters are normally tipped at around one Canadian dollar per bag in a standard hotel. Maid service may be tipped at around one Canadian dollar a day.
