Rijksmuseum
Amsterdam's awesome museum of art is the permanent home of around

Gogh Museum
The life and work of Amsterdam's most famous artist is celebrated in this

Anne
Frank's House
This is the house in which Anne Frank wrote her famous diary, recording
her experiences as a member of a Jewish family during the Nazi occupation
of Amsterdam in World War II. This fascinating and historic address is now
open daily to the public.
Rembrandt
House
The house
was lived in by Rembrandt for over 20 years and now contains engravings
made by this famous artist. Another must-see cultural attraction when in
Amsterdam.
Bloemenmarkt
Located on the Singel Canal, Amsterdam's impressive world-famous floating
flower market is a unique shopping experience not to be missed. A Mecca
for anyone in search of trees, plants, shrubs, herbs or flowers, the market
is open for business six days a week.

When to Visit - Arts and Events
The Netherlands has more art treaures per square mile than any other country on earth. Its museums are home to the world's richest and most comprehensive collection of of art masterpieces from the 15th to the 20th centuries. Amsterdam also has many performance halls that play host to music, dance and the famous performing arts festivals.
Amsterdam Dining
In recent years, with multinationals such as Sony, IBM and Xerox choosing Amsterdam as their base for European operations, the number of restaurants and range of international menus has dramatically increased, giving diners an extensive choice of cosmopolitan culinary options. Local dishes include 'stampot', a down-to-earth meal consisting of mashed potatoes, with carrots, onions, bacon and smoked sausage, whilst 'poffertjes', small hot pancakes covered in powdered sugar are delicious and sold by vendors at fairs or similar events. Take note that the Dutch tend to eat early in the evening and restaurants will close earlier than you might expect.
Amsterdam Tipping Advice
A service charge is generally included in restaurant prices and taxi fares, but it is usual to round the total up to the nearest Euro plus 10% for good service. Porters, doormen and room service in Amsterdam hotels will expect a small tip for their services.
